Arts Aficionados

Downtown Kerrville’s thriving arts scene brings together performing and visual arts, makers and visionaries, and arts events that are making Kerrville an arts destination.

The arts have long found a home in Kerrville, and our Downtown is a strong reflection of the unique artisan spirit of our community. In and outside of Downtown, the art scene is vibrant and diverse. Art galleries, live theater and music venues, art education, and traveling exhibitions make Kerrville a year-round home for creatives and aficionados.

Our Downtown galleries draw exhibits by artists from all over the nation. Be sure to stop by River’s Edge Gallery on Water Street to see over 50 artists under one roof, in a multitude of styles and media. Their in-house frame experts will also find just the right finishing touch for your piece. Also in the heart of Downtown is Slate Gray Gallery, a modern space and art gallery displaying fine art, unique home goods, and studio jewelry. If you’re an art lover and need a bite, don’t miss Francisco’s Restaurant and the owner’s evolving collection, while the rotating exhibits from emerging artists at Grape Juice never disappoint.

The Kerr Arts & Cultural Center provides a hub for visual and other kinds of arts in Downtown and beyond. KACC hosts juried, student, and other regular shows. It is a catalyst for enriching the cultural life of the community and supporting artists of the Hill Country through exhibitions, instruction in the arts and fine crafts, and educational programs for adults and young people. Admission is always free!

No conversation about the arts would be complete without Downtown’s outstanding live music and theater performances. The Cailloux Theater is a first-class performing arts center, drawing national and international touring performers. This public-private partnership is a truly jewel in the Kerrville crown. Playhouse 2000 calls the Cailloux Theater home, along with the VK Garage Theater next door. For the classically inclined, the Hill Country Youth Orchestra and Symphony of the Hills seasons are not to be missed. The Kerrville School of Dance also performs on the Cailloux stage.

Every Memorial Day weekend, the Kerrville Festival of the Arts comes to Downtown, our largest street fair of the year. Over 120 artists participate in this juried show on the streets of Downtown. Now in its 5th year, it is considered a rising star in the Texas art show scene. If you are in the area, this family-friendly and relaxed event should be part of your holiday weekend!

Every October, chalk artists descend on Kerrville for the Kerrville Chalk Festival in Peterson Plaza. This two day family event showcases extraordinary creations in chalk, and raises money for great causes throughout the Kerrville area.
